Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Defender Kevin Mbabu doesn’t have a future at Fulham under Marco Silva.
That’s according to The Athletic journalist Peter Rutzler, speaking on the Fulhamish Podcast.
Fulham’s Premier League campaign kicks off in just 10 days.
They travel to Goodison Park to face Everton in a game that may end up being very important at the bottom of the table by the end of the season.
Fulham manager Marco Silva still has plenty of conundrums to deal with before the season begins.
There’s the issue of whether Aleksandar Mitrovic will still be at the club and if he is, will he be fit to play.
Joao Palhinha was Fulham’s best player last season, but a shoulder injury picked up against Aston Villa might rule him out of the start of the campaign too.
Fulham’s squad looked thin during their tour of the United States, with impressive youngster Luc de Fougerolles starting twice.
The teenager even started ahead of Kevin Mbabu, who appears to have no future at Fulham.
Ever since his £6.4m move last summer, he’s struggled to live up to expectations, although he’s not been afraid to put in a big challenge in training.
Mbabu doesn’t have future at Fulham
Speaking about the Swiss international, Rutzler said: “There are still positions that Fulham need to address.
“We talked about wingers, right-back’s the other one I think. I don’t see a future for Kevin Mbabu whilst [Marco] Silva’s in charge at Fulham.
“Obviously, he’s still on the books and that may complicate things. Reported interest in Timothy Castagne, I know there’s been other right-backs of interest.
“I think Castagne would be an expensive one if Fulham were to do it.”
Mbabu’s crowning moment if he does leave this summer will be the cross he delivered to Mitrovic in the final seconds of last season’s 3-2 win over Brentford.
He only made a couple of appearances after that match and was part of the side that struggled against Newcastle United.
The 28-year-old and the rest of the team weren’t helped by Nathaniel Chalobah’s early red card, but the right-back was still hooked at half-time.
Mbabu was out on loan at Servette for the second half of last season and his future at Fulham looks very bleak.
If the club do bring in another right-back, Mbabu will likely be forced to look elsewhere for minutes next season.
