Eddie Howe confirms £12m Newcastle United star ‘definitely’ won’t play against Fulham

Fulham will be taking on Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend and Marco silva will be desperate to see a response after the embarrassing defeat at Nottingham Forest.

Fulham have a real knack of keeping you on your toes.

Just when you think Fulham are making real progress, they serve up some terrible performances and results.

Wins over Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur were exceptional, but the first half at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday was not acceptable.

Marco Silva remarkably made three changes after half an hour but Fulham were still 3-0 down at half-time.

Tosin Adarabioyo’s consolation could have sparked a Fulham fightback, but the damage was done and one point from trips to Sheffield United and Forest – whilst conceding six goals – feels incredibly underwhelming.

Newcastle United are next up with the Magpies travelling to Craven Cottage this weekend – and they will have to do it without a key player.

Newcastle United star will miss Fulham clash

Eddie Howe’s side drew with Everton on Tuesday night and Silva will be looking to get back on track against a patchy Newcastle side.

Injuries have been a problem for Newcastle all season and Howe will have to face Fulham without Kieran Trippier.

The England international has been out for the last month having picked up a calf injury against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Trippier therefore missed England’s international fixtures and he won’t make it back in time to face Fulham either.

Howe has told The Northern Echo that Trippier is ‘definitely’ out against Fulham as he simply isn’t ready to play yet.

“Kieran is not ready to play yet, so he won’t be back for the Fulham game definitely, and that’s where we are. All the others continue to be out,” said Howe.

Snapped up for £12million from Atletico Madrid in 2022, Trippier has been a key player ever since joining Newcastle.

A solid defender and major threat going forward with his crossing ability, Trippier will be a big miss for the Magpies at Craven Cottage.

Kieran Trippier on lengthy Newcastle United injury list

Trippier is far from the only injury in the Newcastle ranks right now.

Centre backs Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are both out with long-term knee injuries and won’t play again this season.

The likes of Lewis Miley, Callum Wilson, Joelinton, Valentino Livramento, Miguel Almiron, Nick Pope and Matt Targett are also out at the moment.

Add in Sandro Tonali’s suspension and Newcastle are without so many important players right now.

Fulham will hope to take advantage this summer and get back on track after that dismal night at the City Ground.
