Fulham loanee George Wickens has earned huge praise after having the ‘evening of his life’ for Ross County against Rangers on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday, we saw Fulham linked with a surprise move for a new goalkeeper.

Werder Bremen stopper Michael Zetterer is allegedly on the radar, but we were a little surprised by those rumours.

Fulham already have Bernd Leno, Marek Rodak and Steven Benda in the goalkeeping ranks so adding another stopper doesn’t feel like a top priority.

There is also a young stopper out on loan away from Craven Cottage in George Wickens – and he is earning major praise right now.

Fulham talent George Wickens turns in stunning display against Rangers

Wickens joined Ross County on loan in January, agreeing a deal until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old spent the 2021-22 season on loan with Wealdstone so this move to Scotland was a real step up for Wickens.

Now serving as the first-choice stopper for Ross County, Wickens came up against a major test by facing Rangers on Wednesday night.

Few gave Ross County a chance and yes, Rangers ran out comfortable winners with a 3-1 victory at Ibrox.

Wickens was a surprise star of the show though as he racked up 19 – yes, 19 – saves to try and keep Rangers at bay.

BBC Sport note that Wickens’ outstanding display saw him record the most saves in the Scottish Premiership era, setting a new record by five saves.

Rangers boss Philippe Clement was blown away by Wickens, telling The Scottish Sun that Wickens had the ‘evening of his life’ in the Ross County goal.

Rangers had 43 shots but were left frustrated as Wickens stood firm, turning in a simply astonishing performance.

Fulham will be delighted with the progress Wickens is making in Scotland and, after such a sensational display, there may be just mounting interest in his signature come the summer.
