Fulham lost in heart breaking fashion to Manchester United on Saturday afternoon.

For the second time in as many seasons, the Red Devils got away with one at Craven Cottage as they scored another late winner at the Putney End.

Despite the defeat, it was a bright performance from Fulham until the last minute, and there were a few impressive performances on the day.

Joao Palhinha was brilliant as he always is, Willian looked classy as ever and Alex Iwobi put in what was arguably his best performance in a Fulham shirt to date.

Speaking on TNT Sports’ live commentary, Jermaine Jenas singled out Iwobi for praise in the 72nd minute, stating that he played really well and was very tidy on the ball.

Iwobi was bright

Jenas spoke highly of the 27-year-old.

“I think he’s looked good today you know Iwobi. From the Fulham players he’s played really well. He’s been neat and tidy and he’s found himself in a new position from when we used to see him at Arsenal,” Jenas said.

Best he’s played

While that result might take a little while to get over, it has to be said that there were positives to take away.

Iwobi was brilliant in that central midfield role, his driving runs from deep really opened the game up, and he was really making things happen.

The Nigerian’s quick feet in the middle allowed him to open up gaps and find his teammates, and on another day, one of these moves would have led to a goal.

Sadly, Fulham’s attackers continue to falter in front of goal as the Whites go another week without finding the back of the net, but with a proper goalscorer in the team, you have to imagine that Iwobi’s creativity will start to pay dividends at some point.
