Ally McCoist unimpressed with ‘really poor’ Fulham man yesterday during Tottenham defeat

Pundit Ally McCoist was left unimpressed by Fulham attacker Bobby De Cordova-Reid during their defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last night.

McCoist was commentating on the match for TalkSPORT (23/10 9:09pm) as Marco Silva’s side recorded another away loss to Spurs.

Fulham have a terrible record away to yesterday’s opponents and were unable to take advantage of the chances they carved out against the league leaders.

A bullet header from Joao Palhinha forced Guglielmo Vicario into a very good save before the Whites gifted Spurs their first goal.

Calvin Bassey’s passing out from the back ended up costing Fulham last night, with two wayward balls into midfield intercepted and immediately pounced on.

He was starting just his second league match since signing from Ajax and looked short of sharpness in an unfamiliar role.

Son Heung-min and James Maddison made Fulham pay, but they did create some opportunities of their own.

Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson will be disappointed they couldn’t convert their late efforts but Silva’s side were sloppy in the final third when they did get their foot on the ball.

Ally McCoist highlighted one moment against Tottenham where Bobby De Cordova-Reid didn’t cover himself in glory.

The versatile attacker was handed a start ahead of Harry Wilson but struggled to make any real impact on the game.

McCoist unimpressed with De Cordova-Reid vs. Tottenham

In the second half, Palhinha delivered a great cross-field ball to De Cordova-Reid but a sloppy first touch allowed Destiny Udogie to recover possession.

In response to his mistake, McCoist said: “His touch was really poor. It was a brilliant switch of play I felt from [Joao] Palhinha.

“It deserved a better touch from De Cordova-Reid, he really should have been in on goal and had an attempt at a finish.

“It was a really poor touch.”

Sloppy mistakes at both ends of the pitch are going to cost Fulham in games like this where the margins are so fine.

Not properly replacing Aleksandar Mitrovic highlights the current ambition of the owners and although Jimenez can do some things well, he’s completely bereft of confidence.

De Cordova-Reid could be an option to start up front but against Tottenham, he was barely in the game and as McCoist highlighted, he struggled to showcase his quality.

Silva will have plenty of questions to answer before Sunday’s clash against Brighton.

It will be interesting to see what lineup he goes with and De Cordova-Reid might be one player who ends up dropping out.
