Fulham put in their best performance of the season against Sheffield United on Saturday, and it was no coincidence that the Whites’ return to form coincided with Willian’s best performance of the campaign.

The £90k-a-week Brazilian was utterly brilliant for Fulham against the Blades after a slow start to the season.

He ran the show from that left wing as we saw all last term, and he capped off his brilliant performance with a late goal.

Speaking on SuperSport’s coverage of the game, Tony Gale was full of praise for Willian after he netted his injury-time sealer, stating that he is the master of playing those wide roles, advising anyone in Fulham’s academy to watch the winger going forwards.

Willian the master

Gale was full of praise for the attacker.

“His first touch is true, he can hit with his left foot or his right foot, if you’re a young lad coming in from Fulham’s academy, you should watch him because he is the master of the flanks, he is the master,” Gale said.

What a player

He may be 35 years old now, but Willian is still one of the very best players in the Premier League when it comes to technical ability.

The former Chelsea star may not be as quick as he once was, but you never lose your footballing brain, and nobody uses their mind to so much affect like Willian does.

The winger is always just one step ahead of anyone else, and his goal on Saturday epitomised just that as he was able to anticipate Rodrigo Muniz’s hold up play and get himself into the perfect position to fire past Wes Foderingham.

If Fulham are to have a strong season, then performances like this from Willian will certainly help.
