Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.
Mark Schwarzer has now predicted that Fulham star Joao Palhinha won’t leave the club this summer.
Schwarzer was previewing the upcoming Premier League season on the Optus Sport Football Podcast.
Marco Silva has a difficult task on his hands replicating the success of last season.
After winning the Championship, he led Fulham to an incredible top-half finish.
Home wins over local rivals Chelsea and Brentford were some of the highlights, but overall the campaign was a breath of fresh air compared to Fulham’s recent visits to the Premier League.
One of the key reasons why Fulham were so successful last year was Joao Palhinha.
Signed from Sporting CP for £20m, Palhinha dominated the Craven Cottage pitch on a weekly basis.
Unsurprisingly, his performances have attracted interest from elsewhere including West Ham and Liverpool.
However, Mark Schwarzer has said that he doesn’t think Palhinha will leave the club this summer.
That may be due to the fact he picked up an injury during Fulham’s match against Aston Villa in the Premier League Summer Series.
Schwarzer doesn’t think Palhinha will leave Fulham
Speaking about the Portuguese international, Schwarzer said: “I mean [Joao] Palhinha was a great signing, most of us certainly in England didn’t know much about him and I think he’s been a phenomenal signing.
“There’s talk of him possibly leaving but now that he’s injured I think he’ll be staying.
“And it’s almost like a blessing in disguise for a club like Fulham.”
Fulham have spent much of the summer fighting off interest in their best players from other clubs.
Aleksandar Mitrovic could still leave the club despite interest from Saudi Arabia going quiet.
Fulham had to fight off interest from Willian from both Nottingham Forest and then Saudi Arabia too.
Meanwhile, they appear to be happy for Tosin Adarabioyo to move on as he closes in on joining Monaco.
Schwarzer and everyone associated with Fulham will be delighted if Palhinha doesn’t leave the club.
He’s got a huge role to play this season and Silva will be desperate for him to get fully fit as quickly as possible.
