Fulham could now move for Barcelona defender Sergino Dest as the Spanish giants look to move him on.
That’s according to journalist Dean Jones, who provided an update on the USA international to Give Me Sport.
Fulham manager Marco Silva will be keen for the club to sign a right-back this summer.
Kenny Tete was brilliant last year, but Fulham need cover going into next season.
Silva signed Kevin Mbabu last summer as cover for Tete, but he was loaned just six months later after failing to make the grade.
His replacement was Cedric Soares, but he’s now returning to Arsenal after failing to displace the Dutch defender.
Fulham could now move for Sergino Dest to fill that role and challenge Tete for his spot.
The 22-year-old arrived at Camp Nou for £23.8m but has struggled to make an impact.
He was loaned out to AC Milan last year but made just 14 appearances across all competitions.
Dest needs a fresh start and could be offered that at Craven Cottage next season.
Fulham considering move for Dest
Speaking about the American international’s future, Jones said: “Sergino Dest is on the hunt for a new club this week and a few Premier League clubs are being made aware of his availability.
“Barcelona want him gone as soon as possible.
“Manchester United have been on his case, so they know his situation already.
“At the moment there’s no indication United are ready to activate a move to sign him and that’s partly because of his form in recent times.
“He’s fallen away from where he was. But he is versatile and that will hold appeal at other clubs.
“Other teams like Crystal Palace and Fulham will be sounded out over this as clubs that would be likely to consider him, but it will depend on what terms the deal is available at.”
Fulham are interested in defensive reinforcements, with centre-back also a key area that needs addressing.
Dest hasn’t played his best football since his time at Ajax in 2020.
Marco Silva has shown he can improve players during his time at Fulham and could work wonders with Dest.
Fulham may move for Dest if they think they can get a good deal with Barcelona trying to offload him.
The American contingent at Craven Cottage might be asked to sound out whether the young full-back is keen on joining them in the Premier League.
