Speaking to Oh My Goal, Lucas Piazon has opened up on how much he wanted to stay at Fulham after spending two years on loan with the Whites.

Piazon, who was the first Brazilian to ever represent Fulham, spent two years at Fulham under Slavisa Jokanovic, but upon the Whites’ promotion to the Premier League, he returned to west London neighbours Chelsea.

As we all know, Fulham promptly got to work dismantling the promotion team, spending £100m on new talent as they struggled upon their return to the Premier League.

Piazon was left behind despite believing he was going to get a permanent move to Craven Cottage, and he still can’t quite get his head around what happened.

“I was sure that I was going to stay there,” Piazon said.

“I had two great seasons there and I loved the club. I loved the group – we had two amazing years together and in my mind, I was definitely going to go there.

“I still don’t know [what happened]. We had another player from Chelsea there called Tomas Kalas. He also didn’t stay. Until now we still don’t know if the offer that Fulham made Chelsea was enough or if Fulham even made an offer for us.

“That was tough because I spent two years there and I had a great connection with the club, with the fans and not being able to stay there in the Premier League was frustrating.”

If there’s one thing we can say about Piazon it’s that he did have a connection with the club.

His social media antics at the time won the hearts of the fanbase, and a few moments of magic made him an immediate cult hero.

His last minute winner against Reading lived long in the memory, and even though he wasn’t a star man for Fulham, we don’t think many fans would have been against the idea of signing him permanently in the Premier League.

Piazon has finally found a permanent home in Portugal, joining Braga earlier this month, reuniting with former Fulham teammate Rui Fonte.

If any Fulham fans want to take up a second team in Europe, Braga wouldn’t be a bad shout as it’s clear that Piazon still has a lot of love for the Whites, and the fanbase at Craven Cottage still have fond memories of Piazon’s time in SW6.
